Rick is an ecotoxicologist and environmental risk assessment specialist with 35 years of consulting experience providing environmental services globally to public and private sector clients.
During my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in teams of civil engineers, ecologists, and resource specialists to plan and execute strategies, studies, and decisions supporting a wide array of environmental protection, ecosystem restoration, and resource development and management activities.
I've had the privilege to help companies and governments in several countries with environmental impact studies, clean-up of contaminated lands and waterways, and responses to industrial accidents and natural disasters.
My work in recent years includes supporting environment and sustainability strategies for land-based seafood aquaculture and advising governments and international agencies with environmental damage and recovery assessment in regions affected by armed conflict.
I continue to publish original research and reviews of science and environmental topics.
My passion is science communication. I had the privilege of serving for 20 years as Editor in Chief of the peer-review SETAC journal, Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM).
I am proud to continue supporting the journal as the Book Review feature editor.
For Restore the Climate, I am responsible for ensuring projects meet strict Environmental Health and Safety standards, and in particular have overseen the criteria for Environmental Impact Assessments for Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (MCDR).
This supports the RTC goal to ensure the safety of human health and environment, identify and minimize risk, ensure compliance with national and international legal requirements, and report on project outcomes and performance.
